Mills is a name familiar to me because some of the farm land around Sweetser was farmed by a Mills family. I can't remember knowing any personally though. I was born in '73 and did not move near Sweetser until 1979 so obviously there is no direct connection there. My mother attended Oak Hill in the 1960s, but her name was Dodd.Allen Poguehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18033754576245218215noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7841650056891176394.post-9169907197746668882016-01-14T16:51:12.074-08:002016-01-14T16:51:12.074-08:00Allen, I stumbled across this article while doing ...Allen, I stumbled across this article while doing some research. I'm still not certain what aspect of my search led me here. But I'm glad it did. I came across your photo of a creek, and I thought, hey, that looks like Pipe Creek. It was. At that point, I had no idea I was reading about Indiana. Pipe Creek ran across our property about two and a half miles northwest of Roseburg. I'm trying to remember the name Pogue. I'll ask my mother and sister if it is familiar to them. We left Grant County in 1975. My entire childhood was on the farm there. Great, great memories. Sorry I didn'...Allen, this is a WONDERFUL post. Sorry I didn't see it when you first posted it a few weeks ago. Really an excellent description of where we grew up. And I totally agree about following unsolicited advice. I still to this day regret not going to the Air Force Academy. I would have loved it. And excelled. But I was convinced it was a bad idea. I vow to never do that to my kids. I can't say enough how much I enjoyed reading this, even if it was a little melancholy :-). I kind of feel the same way about Indiana. I feel terrible that I haven't been back in forever. And I really and truly miss the family there. But I don't miss the state. I'd have never been happy there and can't even imagine a life there. I do wish I could make it back more often, though :-). Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11898845557233645502noreply@blogger.com
